We spent a huge part of our summer this year (and every year) doing swim lessons. We took 4 sessions that were 4 days a week for 2 weeks. So that is 8 weeks of swimming almost every morning. It is a big commitment but I think it is so worth it. Having multiple lessons in a row has made a great impact on Olive and her swimming. Poor Milo sat there with me every morning but next year he will be big enough to do lessons too.
Here is Olive on the first day of lessons. She's being extra silly because she was so excited. This year she insisted on having goggles every day and she is getting so good she really uses them. She has always been really comfortable in the water and in the swim classes and she's never had a problem putting her face in the water but now she's swimming with her face in and spent a big chink of the summer practicing side breathing while swimming.
I bought her this swim cap and she loved it. So many people would comment on it when she would wear it. This girl just loves accessories and this was one more thing to wear.
One big accomplishment in her confidence this summer has been on the diving board. She tried it with her life jacket on and fell in love. Since then, that is almost all the wants to do when we swim. She is so confident in it that during lessons she would jump off the board to her teacher without a life jacket on. We called Scott right after lessons and she was so excited to tell him.
The other big hurdle she over came was going down the water slide. She has gone down before but usually it involved lots of tears and some yelling. Her first session this summer she screamed while being carried by her teacher up all the stairs. But, then something clicked and by the last session she was going down by herself and swims to the side at the bottom. We went to the pool yesterday and that is all she wanted to do.
This is our swim crew that we spent so many mornings with. Here they are all enjoying some donuts for Lyla's birthday.
Olive and McCoy had most of their classes together so they are quite the swim buddies. This is their last day of class. Such a fun way to spend the summer!
